Sam's Club enters the Thanksgiving meal deal wars with a pre-cooked feast

Sam's Club has announced a new Thanksgiving meal deal that competes with similar offerings. Their Member's Mark Thanksgiving meal, priced under $100, feeds up to 10 people and consists of private label products. This follows a budget-friendly proposal from another retailer, which feeds 10 for $47, slightly cheaper than a comparable option at Walmart. This competitive landscape underscores a shift among consumers towards affordable private labels, a trend driven by inflation concerns.
Although inflation rates for food have lessened, overall grocery prices have surged, influenced by the pandemic, global conflicts, extreme weather, and profit-driven price hikes by food manufacturers. Meanwhile, a popular turkey producer noted that upcoming Thanksgiving celebrations are predicted to be the largest since 2020, with almost all consumers expecting inflation to impact their holiday festivities.
Sam's Club differentiates itself by offering a fully pre-cooked meal, designed to be reheated and served within two hours. The menu includes a variety of traditional Thanksgiving items. According to a Sam's Club executive, this meal deal is aimed at millennial and Gen Z shoppers, who reportedly make up a significant portion of the membership and are keen on finding good deals.
Other retailers offer similar packages: a 29-item selection with a whole frozen turkey but no pre-cooking option, which can be gifted via pick-up or delivery services.
